Our Mission
The Mission of NCVS
Dissemination
We share and highlight information about the science of voice and speech production.
Training a& Outreach
We provide post-graduate level training in voice and speech research and outreach to practitioners.
Preservation
We feature and celebrate the history and contributions of individuals in the field of voice and speech research.
Our Goals
Dissemination to the General Public
To maintain a Vocal Academy for practical consumer advice and information, including general vocal hygiene, drug use, and prevention of vocal fatigue
Materials for Voice and Speech Educators
To develop a historical record of voice and speech research.
To solicited and distribute monographs, translational articles, video class lectures, research reports, text books, and other research and educational items.
To develop high-quality computer animations of voice and speech production as educational products.
Standards for Analysis and Simulation
To validate simulation software for voice and speech production and post the validation data.
To post mathematical transformations and algorithms between units of production and perception.
To post scientific standards for time-frequency analysis for voice and speech.
Databases for Clinicians
To link to the Iowa Head and Neck protocols for information about clinical disorders.
To post scientific underpinnings of intervention exercises.
Databases for Researchers
To provide a database of signals from simulations of adult and child-like voice and speech production for use in testing signal processing algorithms.
To provide a database of vocal tract area functions for modeling speech.
To post the scientific underpinnings of relation of acoustic sensitivity of the vocal tract to speech production.
To compare and contrast human vocalization with vocalization of mammals, birds, and reptiles.
Support of Other Organizations, Industry, and Individuals
To provide consultation in development and implementation of voice and speech research and technology in consideration for support of the NCVS.
To support the Utah Center for Vocology with teaching materials.
To share information and coordinate activities with the Pan American Vocology Association, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Acoustical Society of America, and The Voice Foundation.
To sponsor and assist in organizing regular meetings of the International Conference on Voice Physiology and Biomechanics (ICVPB).
